On Avernakø you can easily get around with a rental bike, so that you can get to see the May trees, drive around Skallevej, see Avernakø church, Drejet, Korshavn Bridge and the amazing view from Revkrogen.

Lunch of course takes place at **Avernakø Landhotel**, where we have outdoor dining in our beautiful garden when the weather permits. We have classic Danish lunch dishes and cold beer/water in the fridge.

UNESCO Global Geopark The South Funen Island Sea is a geological gem and was shaped during the last ice age when huge glaciers retreated as temperatures rose. Avernakø is about 8 km long and has just under 20 km of coastline, which can be the setting for some very beautiful nature experiences.

The elongated shape of the island means that you have sea views almost wherever you go. It's easy to stop and enjoy one of the many great beaches. The bird life is diverse on Avernakø. Avernakø is home to Europe's largest concentration of bell frogs, and in order to provide them with the best possible conditions, former watering holes have been re-established. It provides good conditions for bird life.

**Weekend island stay at Avernakø in the South Funen Archive**

Go on this weekend island stay alone or with your very best yarn friends. In addition to plant dyeing and a guided walking tour, the focus will be on coziness, community and the common interest in the yarn. Bring your knitwear and get all the way down into gear. Avernakø Landhotel a place with a homely atmosphere, lots of coziness and good homemade food. In addition, we have a park-like garden, eatery and shop.

**Program**

The weekend stay starts in Faaborg where plant colors and field facilitator Henriette Grube will welcome you at 9:45 a.m. at Faaborg Harbor by the Ø-Færgen. At the crossing there will be coffee, cake and cozy get-togethers. 

**Day 1**

- 11.45: Arrival and accommodation at Avernakø Landhotel. Preparation of yarn for pickling, as well as starting color bath.
- 1:00 p.m.: Lunch.
- 14.00: Guided walking tour.
- 15.30: Afternoon coffee with cake, after which pickling is completed and tomorrow's color bath is chosen.
- 6:30 p.m.: Dinner, after which Henriette will talk about her approach to plant coloring and we will talk about pickling, plants, different fibers and what else is on our mind.

**Day 2**

- 8:00 a.m.: Breakfast. Before breakfast, light a fire for a color bath.
- 8:45 a.m.: The coloring process is started up.
- From 9.00 to 11.00: Free play is offered while the bonfires are looked after.
- 11:00: Dyeing is completed, the yarn is washed and fixed. 
- 13.00: Lunch followed by coffee and evaluation.
- At 2:30pm: Departure towards ferry.
- 15:10: The ferry departs from Avernakø towards Faaborg. During the crossing, Henriette will share her knowledge of the South Funen Archipelago.

**Plant Colouring**

We carry out all processes in plant coloring. We dye 2-3 different colors.

- Step 1: Pickling that enables the yarn's ability to take on color.
- Step 2: Preparation of color bath.
- Step 3: The plant dyeing itself, in which the yarn is heated and the dyeing itself occurs.
- Step 4: The yarn is washed and fixed.

Plant coloring is cozy and slow, so there is plenty of time for relaxation, the knitwear and possibly a walk.

It is possible to bring your own yarn for dyeing. It must be wool, mohair or angora — however max 500 g. There will also be an opportunity to buy hand-spun yarn at Avernakø Landhotel, which can be used for the plant dyeing.

**Guided Hiking**

Discover one of the beautiful wonders of the archipelago on foot. In addition to the walk from the ferry to Avernakø Landhotel, after lunch on day 1, there will be a guided walking tour with small pleasant stories. The trip will be about 4-5 km. long. If you are walking poorly, you can shorten the trip.

## The program of the day

- 10:00: The ferry to Avernakø departs from Faaborg Havn, Kanalvej 13, 5600 Faaborg.
- 11.10: Arrival and reception at the Port of Avernakø. Then follows a guided walk on the island. Along the way we experience the amazing nature of the island and the guide will tell you about island life in 2025, the island's wildlife, history, and of course sights. We also visit the island's church. The walk spans approximately 5.5 km.
- 1.15pm: Enjoy a Danish lunch buffet with classic dishes such as: tartelettes, herring and eggs, apple pork, warm liver pate and cold cuts. After lunch, coffee and cookies are served, everything is homemade with a touch of island.
- 2:40 p.m.: The time has come to return towards the harbor, where the ferry leaves at 3:10 p.m.

**5:45 p.m.: ** In Skolestuen, where the long table is covered and decked up, the prelude to the King's New Year's Speech will be lit and snacks will be served (also for the doggies).

**6.30-23.45: ** During this time, New Year's menu, coffee and tea will be served.

**11:45 p.m.: ** Now it is approaching midnight when the bubbles and the wreath cake are put on display. The town hall bells will be visible and heard on television in Skolestuen.

**7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. - New Year's Day: ** Breakfast is served.

**The Program**

1. **Day 1**: The tour starts in Faaborg at 9:45 a.m. On Kanalvej 13, the island ferry is waiting for you, departing at 10:00. The first stop is Lyø where the ferry runs until 10:40am. When you board the ferry you will find a clearly marked “cage” where you need to put your luggage, the ferry staff will arrange to get it safely to Avernakø, where we will transport it up to the hotel.
2. On Lyø there are 4 hours to explore this beautiful island. You must bring packed lunches here, as the eateries on the island are closed outside the summer season. However, you can stay up to date on the opening hours of Café Lyø [here](https://www.xn--cafely-gya.dk/).
3. The ferry departs from Lyø to Avernakø at 14:40. From Avernakø Harbour there is a trip of 1.5 km. to the hotel, where we are waiting with your luggage and a room. At 16:00 there is a welcome with coffee and cake. Maybe the energy is for an evening walk after the meal or maybe the beautiful nature of Avernakou will have to wait until day 2.
4. **Day 2** you lubricate packed lunches in conjunction with breakfast and on the trip there are many good and obvious places to enjoy it. Among other things, Madpakkehuset on Skallevejen. You leave your luggage at the hotel and then we transport it down to the ferry before departure.
5. Customize the trip so that you can catch the ferry return to Faaborg at 15:10 or 16:35.

## **Itinerary**

**Day 1:** The trip begins with check-in at Lundsgaard Bed & Breakfast between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM, or by arrangement. The location is close to the coast, allowing you to cast your line into the water from the very first day. Since Lundsgaard does not have a restaurant, we recommend visiting one of the excellent dining options in Faaborg, just 5 km away.

**Day 2:** The day begins with breakfast at Lundsgaard, followed by the ferry departure from Kanalvej 13, Faaborg. Departure times are at 5:50 AM or 8:00 AM on weekdays and 8:00 AM on all other days. You will receive your ferry ticket in advance via email, which can simply be scanned by the ferry staff. The ferry trip to Lyø takes approximately 40 minutes. Your packed lunch and coffee will arrive with the ferry at 9:10 AM and can be found in a marked cooler box at Lyø Harbor.

After spending a few hours fishing along Lyø's peaceful shores – where there are rarely other anglers – you will take the ferry to Avernakø, departing from Lyø Harbor at 2:45 PM and arriving at Avernakø at 3:10 PM. Upon arrival at Avernakø Landhotel, we will welcome you with coffee and cake, followed by check-in at the hotel.

Dinner will be served according to your preferences, allowing you to plan your fishing day without interruptions. In the evening, you can explore Avernakø's beautiful coasts and prepare for the next day of fishing. We also offer facilities and space for social activities, such as tying a fly or two (please bring your fly-tying tools and materials).

**Day 3 is entirely yours** – with a packed lunch in your bag, you can explore the island’s coasts at your own pace. Avernakø offers numerous fishing spots where you can find peace and enjoy stretches of shoreline all to yourself. Check-out from your room is at 11:00 AM, but we offer storage for your luggage and any catch until later in the day. Of course, assistance is available throughout the day.

You decide when to take the ferry back, and we will provide your ferry ticket. If you wish to extend your stay and further explore this sea trout paradise, additional nights and meals can be arranged.

**10:00am**: The island ferry departs from Kanalvej 13, Faaborg. Ferry tickets are sent to you in advance. On the ferry you can buy coffee, hot cocoa and soft drinks, which are enjoyed with the beautiful view of the South Funen Archipelago.

**11:20am**: Arrival at Avernakø harbour. From here, the walk takes a beautiful route (1.3 km) up to the hotel.

**12:15pm**: Lunchtime! Enjoy a delicious lunch with free choice between Star Shot and Pariserbauf. Our most popular dishes. There is, of course, a vegetarian/vegan alternative.

**1:00pm**: We invite on a guided winter walk where together we walk “Skallevejen around,” a popular 4.3 km walk with tales of the island's nature, culture and history. Then you can choose to explore the island on your own — on foot, by bike (can be rented) or in your own car. We recommend a trip over “Drejet” or around Hovedsjön, and you will be given a map of the island.

After dark we have fun indoors with board games, mulled wine & apple slices or coffee & cake.

**6:30**: Dinner is served as the dish of the day in platter serving. The menu varies, but Danish food made from scratch with love is always offered. There are, of course, both vegan and vegetarian alternatives.

## **Day 2**

**7:00 A.M. TO 9:00 AM**: Breakfast buffet with a selection of homemade treats, coffee, tea and other goodies.

**9.30**: For those interested, we offer a walk around to greet the Landhotell animals and watch them being fed. Meet our rabbits, goats, sheep, chickens, guinea pigs, and budgies.

**10.00-12.00**: The morning offers “free play,” where you can enjoy whatever you want most. We will of course do our best to accommodate your wishes. Perhaps you need to explore parts of Avernakø, such as The Church or the Bird Tower on Oddevej?

**12:00pm**: Breakfast is served. Then you can continue with pleasant activities. Among other things, there is the opportunity to light up in our cozy campfire hut, where there are blankets and cushions.

**2pm**: Afternoon coffee and cake will be served and can be enjoyed wherever you wish.

**3:10pm**: Departure towards the mainland. The island ferry leaves for Faaborg at 15:10.

When you board the ferry you will find a clearly marked “cage” where you can put your luggage so that you do not have to drag it into the salon.

**11:10am: ** Upon arrival at Avernakø, we will drive your luggage to the hotel so you can enjoy a relaxing stroll up to the hotel without carrying anything. After the entrance, there is a child-friendly lunch with several dishes. Throughout the stay there is free access to fruit, vegetables and buttered buns for the little hungry, as well as coffee and tea for the adults.

In the **afternoon**, depending on the weather, we can go on a beach trip with exciting equipment for play and discovery, or enjoy ourselves by the bonfire in the fire hut with popcorn and the company of animals.

**5:30, **: For dinner, you can build your own delicious burgers and enjoy pancakes with ice cream for dessert.

**6:30**: We say goodnight to all the animals and learn about their evening routines.

**7:00 A.M. TO 8:00 AM**: Enjoy a delicious breakfast with a large and kid-friendly selection of homemade delights.

**9:15am**: Join us for an exciting animal watching tour where Majbritt talks about the animals and anyone can help feed them. Meet rabbits, goats, sheep, guinea pigs, budgies and a musk duck.

**11.30**: We serve a delicious lunch, after which you are free to choose what you want to make of pleasant activities.

**2:30 PM**: We walk together to the ferry while the luggage is taken to the ferry for us, so that you can enjoy the last part of the trip in peace.

Our **"Christmas Lunch in the Archipelago” ** is an alternative to the traditional celebration with a focus on coziness, nature and presence. We value the good mood more than the number of empty schnapps. The tree is decorated and there is picky about the food. As a larger group (10+ people) you have the opportunity to book the entire event, by contacting us directly.

Take the ferry from Faaborg and feel your shoulders lower as you arrive at Avernakø. The day starts with a guided walk where our guide will take you around the island and tell you about its history and atmosphere. After that, Christmas cheer awaits for the huge gold medal with mulled wine, hot cocoa and Christmas puff, followed by a delicious, classic Christmas lunch. We end the day with a fun Christmas banko with delicious prizes, after which the trip goes to Ø-Færgen, which sails you back to Faaborg. As an alternative to the Christmas banko for the children, a walk with headlamps can be arranged around to say good night to all the animals in the Garden.

**Day 1: Arrival in the Funen Alps:**\
Your adventure begins in the heart of Funen’s most iconic landscape. Faaborg Camping is located directly in the Svanninge Hills & Mountains – a hilly moraine landscape shaped by the last Ice Age and often referred to as “The Funen Alps.” Check into your cabin after 3:00 pm, which serves as the perfect base. Spend the afternoon exploring the beautiful hills, which offer a wealth of hiking and mountain biking routes. In the evening, you can enjoy a meal with a view of the rolling countryside.

**Day 2: From mountains to archipelago:**\
After a good night’s sleep, you can explore more of the magnificent landscape surrounding Faaborg Camping. The area is known for its rich biodiversity and historic trails. Try one of the marked hiking routes, or rent a mountain bike to get your pulse up on the scenic tracks. The direct access from the campsite to the “Funen Alps” makes this a unique outdoor experience. We recommend trying the Mammut Trail on a mountain bike, climbing Lerbjerg on foot, or exploring the Svanninge Hills. The evening can be spent relaxing or taking a trip to the cozy market town of Faaborg, just a few kilometers away.

**Day 3: Island hopping to Lyø and Avernakø:**\
Today a true island-hopping adventure awaits. Check out from Faaborg Camping and take the ferry from Faaborg to Lyø at 10:00. Stroll through Lyø’s charming streets with thatched houses and the characteristic village ponds. Remember to bring a packed lunch, as shops may have limited opening hours.

Later, the journey continues to Avernakø. The ferry departs from Lyø at 14:40 and arrives at Avernakø at 15:10. From Avernakø Harbour it is 1.3 km to the Landhotel. Taxi service can be arranged (50,-).

At 16:00, you are invited for coffee and cake with an introduction to Avernakø and the Landhotel. Between 17:30–19:00, a delicious dinner of local specialties and fresh produce is served.

**Day 4: Authentic island life on Avernakø:**\
Wake up to a good breakfast at the hotel (7–9). The morning is yours to explore Avernakø on foot or by bike. Experience the island’s unique landscape and tranquility. Lunch can be purchased at Avernakø Landhotel, and you are also welcome to prepare a packed lunch from the breakfast buffet instead. The final stage of the tour takes you back to Faaborg by ferry at 15:10, filled with new impressions and experiences.

- **2:40pm: ** Then the trip goes on to Avernakø by ferry! Arriving at 3:10 p.m. From here you can choose to rent bicycles or stroll the pleasant walk of 1.5 km. up to the hotel. You will pass by Avernakø Købmand on the way to the hotel.

- **3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.: ** Welcome to the hotel! You will be accommodated, your luggage will be handed over and at 16.00 there will be a communal coffee table with a welcome from the host.

- **5:30-7:00 p.m.: ** Dinner will be served and there are always alternatives to the dish of the day - both for children and adults. For dessert, there are fluffy pancakes with pickled fruits and own cream ice cream.

**Day 2: Experience Avernakø and the hotel's many animals**

- **7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.: ** Enjoy a delicious breakfast with a large and child-friendly selection of homemade delights.

- **9.15-10.00: ** Here you have the opportunity to buy a pet sitting round, where you and the zookeeper walk around and greet all our animals and give them breakfast.

- **From 12:00 to 15:00: ** During this time lunch is served at the Landhotell with good dishes for both children and adults.

- **At 3:10 p.m.: ** Then the trip goes home and the ferry sails you to Faaborg at 3:10 p.m. The luggage will also be brought to the ferry. It is possible to book an island taxi if preferred.
